5th civilian killing in last 15 days in southern Kashmir

Anantnag, Apr 02 (KNO): Unknown gunmen on Thursday evening shot dead a man in Larkipora area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. With this, the number of civilians killed in South Kashmir in last 15 days has mounted to five. According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Police said that the suspected militants fired upon a man identified as Muhammad Saleem Dar, son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir of Fatehpora Larkipora area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Dar, as per the locals suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to a nearby Government Medical College (GMC) hospital Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead. Medical Superintendent, GMC Anantnag, Dr. Majid Mehrab confirmed to—KNO that Dar was brought dead to the GMC as he had multiple bullet injuries. A senior police officer also confirmed his killing and said that search operation has been launched in the area to nab the attackers. Pertinently, this is 5th civilian killing in South Kashmir in last 15 days. On 21st March, a youth from Turigam village of Yaripora in South Kashmir's Kulgam district identified as Waseem Ahmad son of Mohammad Amin shot at injured by militant later he succumbed to his injuries on March 31 at SKIMS Soura. On 27th March, another youth injured by militants in Redwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam identified as Mehraj Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Akbar Bhat from Redwani. Later, he succumbed his injuries in GMC Anantnag. On April 1st, militants shot dead two civilians in Nandimarg area of Damhal Hanjipora in South Kashmir's Kulgam district. Then officials identified both of them as Ghulam Hassan Wagay son of Wahab Wagay, a retired forest employee and Siraj Din Ahmad from Nandimarg. Meanwhile, police in a statement issued to –KNO said that at about 09:05 PM, Anantnag police received information about an incident in Larkipora area of Fatehpora District Anantnag where militants had fired on a civilian. Senior police officers reached at the spot, police said, adding that the injured was evacuated to nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. However, he succumbed to his injuries. Police said that it has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of incident. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on,” police said—(KNO)
